MiterImprovements

WithpriorreleasesofSPECCTRA,Miterdidnotalwaysproduceresultsthatwere
idealformanufacturing.Also,Miterresultswouldnotalwaysadheretoall
constraints,especiallyelectricalconstraintssuchasdifferentialpairsandlength
controllednets.
Thesemiteringdeficienciescouldposeasignificantdelayinthecycletimeof
aboarddesignifmanualclean-upwasrequired.
ForthisreleaseofSPECCTRA10.1.1,Miterhasbeensignificantlyenhancedto
producefarbetterdiagonalizationoftracesinopenareas,intopinsandvias,andon
traceswithelectricalconstraints.

Specifically..

-Miterwillnowproducemanymoremitered45degreecornersthaninprevious
releases.
Thisistheresultofapplyingmoreintelligentmethodstodetermineoptimal
setbacksfromthecorners.
-Themiterfunctionwillnowgeneratelongermiteredconnectionstoproduce
cleaner,moremanufacturableroutingpatterns.
-Miteringproducesimproved45degreepinentriesforbothcircularand
rectangularpins,includingSMDpins.Forrectangularpins,miterwillnowcreate
cleandiagonalsfromthecornerlocations.
-Differentialpairsarenowfullyrecognizedandmitered,adheringtoall
constraints.
Thisisasignificantimprovementforhighspeeddesignswheredifferential
pairsarewidelyused.Thenewalgorithmwillalsoadjustlengthaccordinglytomeet
min,max,andmatchedlength.
-Miterhasbeenenhancedtoadheretobothminimumandmaximumlengthrules,to
ensurethatthelengthrulesarenotviolated.Miterwillautomaticallyaddlength,
ifspaceisavailable,incaseswheremiteringreducedlengthbelowtheminimum
tolerance.
-Otherenhancementsweremadetothegeneralqualityofmitering,basedoncustomer
feedback.

Propagationdelayandelongationcontrols

SPECCTRAnowhandlespropagationdelayandelongationpatternsmoreefficiently,
andusershavegreatercontroloverhowtheseprocesseswork.Inpastreleases,users
didnothavetheappropriatecontrolstomanageelongationand,asaresult,were
sometimesforcedtousemanualeditingtocleanuptherouting.

-Newelongationcontrols,mingap,minamplitude,maxamplitude,andmaxrun
length,havebeenaddedtoallowbettercontrol.(Note:ThenewMeandorandSawtooth
patternswillbeavailableintheupcoming10.2Release.)
-Thevaluesforgap,andforminimumandmaximumamplitudeforAccordionand
Trombonearenowenforcedmorestrictlyduringrouting.

Qualityimprovements

Atthe2000CCTUser'sGroupconference,wecommittedourselvestomaking
continuousqualityimprovementsinSPECCTRA.Aspartofthisinitiative,weare
committedtotrackingandworkingontheusercommunity'sTop25PCR's.
